In an Unjust Society, Silence is a Crime — Dino Melaye Speaks on Nigeria’s Crisis

Former Kogi lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has raised alarm over recent developments in Nigeria, warning that the nation “must not be allowed to die.”

Melaye, who represented Kogi West in the 8th National Assembly, expressed concern over issues such as the rumoured coup, President Donald Trump’s threat of a U.S. invasion of Nigeria, and what he described as arbitrary and self-serving amendments to the country’s laws.

In a post shared early Thursday, the former PDP governorship candidate lamented that the situation in Nigeria has never been this dire since the return of democracy in 1999.

“Nigeria must not die. The things happening in this country have never happened since 1999 — rumours of a coup, Trump and America’s threat of invasion, and egocentric amendments of laws.

“Enough is enough. In an unjust society, silence is a crime,” he wrote.

His comments follow reports that U.S. President Donald Trump has once again designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, citing ongoing religious persecution and insecurity.

Trump reportedly warned that unless the Nigerian government ends the killings and violence in the northern region, the U.S. military may be deployed to target terrorist hideouts and protect the Christian population.
