An inmate who fled the Nigerian Correctional Service facility following last week’s flood in Maiduguri has been arrested.
Abubakar Mohammed was rearrested by the Borno State Police Command.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Police in the state, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil.
Recall that the state government had announced that over 200 inmates in the correctional facility escaped after the fence of the prison collapsed due to flooding.
However, Wakil said that Mohammed, 27, who was serving a jail term for culpable homicide was re-arrested when he was sighted in Gubio town after his escape.
According to the police, the convict was apprehended at about 3:00 pm on September 15, 2024, following a tip from a resident of Bulakara Ward in Gubio LGA.
He added a team of patrol operatives swung into action immediately and was arrested by the escapee.
Wakil also assured the public that efforts are being made to that all other escapees are re-arrested.
