The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has reacted to a letter from British parliamentarians, which accused the Federal Government of Nigeria of condoning killings in the country.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the lawmakers had, in a letter to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, condemned the killings of Nigerians by Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East and Fulani herdsmen in the Middle Belt region.
According to the lawmakers, the failure of the Federal Government to protect Nigerians was a breach of the Commonwealth charter. They, however, asked the Commonwealth to investigate the killings in Nigeria and bring the perpetrators to justice.
But in response to the British lawmakers’ letter, the Presidency denied the allegation that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is condoning killings in Nigeria.
In a statement in Abuja on Friday, Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the federal government is not biased against any ethnicity or religious group. He also faulted the sources of information that served as the basis of the letter.
However, the Vice-Chairman of CAN in charge of 19 northern states and Abuja, Rev Joseph Hayab, welcomed the letter written by UK lawmakers on the killings in Nigeria.
Hayab said the letter was a wake-up call on the Federal Government, urging the President to find a lasting solution to the killings in the country.
The cleric also berated the presidential aide for his reaction to the letter. Hayab said the government may be trying in some cases but his poor presentation about the killings and evil done by bandits always makes victims and relations of victims see the government as uncaring.”
He said, “CAN, therefore, welcomes the move by UK lawmakers and hope it will be a wake-up call on our leaders to do what is expected of them constitutionally.”
It is only in Nigeria that the government rehabilitate and reintegrate terrorists to the society and abound the victims of terrorism in Internally displaced camps . The whole security of a nation made up many different ethnic groups and many religions in the hands of only the fulani and on one religion. Nepotism is on extreme in Nigeria. Others ethnic group are completely sidelined. Massive killing of Christians and soldiers who are Christians and original hausas who are the real owners of the North before jihad.
