The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has directed all war commanders in the North-east to enforce President Muhammadu Buhari’s order by crushing all criminal elements, exposing their sponsors and collaborators.
Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, made this known to reporters on Monday at the end of a meeting with top Army officials at the Army headquarters, Abuja.
Recall that President Buhari had last week reprimanded the service chiefs for the poor performance in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country, saying they needed to do more.
Speaking further, Musa said the COAS directed all Army officials must ensure that the order given by the President and Commander in Chief must be fully implemented to speedily crush Boko Haram insurgents and other criminal elements in the country.
He added that Buratai told all commanders to be at the battlefield to lead their men from the front and not from their headquarters, noting that the meeting was a time for action, a time to change the war narrative.
He said: “The COAS charged all commanders to lead the charge by being out in the field to effectively oversee the operations. The COAS states that the criminals and their collaborators and sponsors must be exposed, flushed out and destroyed.
“Gen Buratai warned that he wants to see an all-encompassing positive change in Nigerian Army operations and the security situation in the country. There is no time for complacency, no time for excuses and there will be no tolerance for shortcomings or failures; the situation must be reversed immediately.”
