The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said it has exposed secret detention centres where Nigerian security forces are holding Biafra activists hostage.
In a statement released by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group revealed a list of hidden facilities where innocent people are being subjected to human rights abuses, torture, and organ harvesting.
According to IPOB, the secret detention centres include military bases, police stations, and prisons across the country. Some of the facilities mentioned include Wawa Military Base, Kanji Dam Detention Center, Niger State Barracks and Prison, and DSS Headquarters in Abuja.
Others include Intelligence Response Team (IRT) Abattoir, Abuja; Tiger Base Police Detention, Owerri, Imo State; Goodluck Jonathan’s Army Barracks, Ohafia, Abia State; Zone 9, Umuahia, Abia State; Zone 13, Ukpo, Anambra State; Onitsha Army Barracks, Anambra State.
Others are Navy Base, Ogbaru, Anambra State; SARS Awkuzu, Ukpo, Anambra State; 82 Division, Enugu; Military Barracks, Enugu State; Obinze Army Barracks, Owerri, Imo State; Central Police Station Headquarters, Umuahia, Abia State; State CID Headquarters, Awka, Anambra State; Naval Base Asaba, Delta State; Enugu Maximum Prison, Enugu State; Port Harcourt Maximum Prison, Rivers State; Aba Prison, Abia State; Abakaliki Prisons, Ebonyi State; Uyo Prisons, Akwa Ibom; Owerri Prisons, Imo State; Kuje Prisons, Abuja; Keffi Prison; Suleja Prison, Niger State; and Nigerian Military Intelligence Detention Facility, Abuja.
IPOB urged families of missing relatives to search for their loved ones at these secret detention centres, alleging that many innocent Igbo people have been profiled and detained due to their ethnicity. The group claimed that not only Igbo people but also individuals from other ethnic groups are being held in these facilities.
The statement reads: “Ndigbo are the highest ethnic group that are being detained with accusations of being either members of IPOB or ESN or framed as kidnappers by the notorious Nigerian Police, DSS, and Army.
“Ndigbo have been profiled because of their ethnicity by the Nigerian government and hunted and detained across all the illegal detention centres in Nigeria.
“Not only are innocent Igbo detained in these illegal detention facilities, but also innocent people from other ethnic groups are locked up in these gulags.
“The detention facilities in Nigeria are places to search for your missing relative if he or she hasn’t been tortured to death or butchered for the organ black market by the notorious Nigerian security agencies.
“Until today, some of the IPOB members that the Nigerian Army and Police abducted during President Donald Trump’s inauguration rally in 2016 at Port Harcourt (Igweocha), Rivers State, are still missing. IPOB is still searching for those men and women who were abducted during the peaceful rally, more than 8 years on.”
