Ohanaeze Ndigbo committed to a united Nigeria – British commissioner

Catriona Laing, British high commissioner to Nigeria, has said that Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an apex Igbo socio-cultural group in Nigeria, is ‘committed to a united Nigeria’.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Laing on Thursday met with Ambassador George Obiozor, President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other senior leaders from Nigeria’s South East region. According to her, “I heard clearly their commitment to a united Nigeria and their proposals on how to achieve this.”

“Looking forward to more engagements in the near future,” Laing wrote on her verified Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Simon Ekpa, a self-styled disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has slammed Laing for ‘pushing for one united failed Nigeria’.

Reacting to the meeting between the diplomat and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group which represents all Igbo communities within and outside Nigeria, Ekpa accused Laing of hypocrisy.

“The British High Commissioner @CatrionaLaing1 continue to push for one united failed Nigeria. While she and her family in the United Kingdom are enjoying democracy, she voted UK out of EU but continue to force Nigeria to remain one irrespective of the dangerous diversity,” Ekpa said via Twitter.
