”It’d be a miracle if ASUU survives FG face-off” – Kperogi

Media scholar, Professor Farooq Kperogi, has said that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) surviving the present face-off with the Federal Government of Nigeria would be miraculous.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the court of appeal sitting in Abuja last week ordered ASUU to call off its strike.

At the court session last Friday, the appellate court stated that ASUU should obey the order of an industrial court which directed the suspension of the strike before seeking to appeal the judgment.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, and a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.

“Adamu Adamu (Minister of Education), an erstwhile ASUU ally, is turning out to be the deadliest foe ASUU has ever had,” Kperogi said via his known Facebook page on Sunday.

“With help from Chris Ngige (Minister of Labour and Employment), he’s dealing the union one crushing blow after another. It would be a miracle if the union survives this.

“Lesson: the fact that someone is your friend today doesn’t mean they can’t be a murderous foe tomorrow.”
