Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, has reacted to the reports circulating on social media that he has been appointed as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
It was rumoured on Tuesday night that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Odumosu as the new EFCC boss and he is currently awaiting National Assembly’s confirmation.
But in a swift reaction on, Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, dismissed the social media reports, adding that he was not aware of such an appointment.
Odumosu also described the circulation of such fake news and the handiwork of by mischief makers.
“I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported ‘EFCC Appointment’. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue. This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded,” Odumosu declared.
Politics Nigeria recalls that President Tinubu is yet to name a substantive EFCC chairman since Abdulrasheed Bawa’s recent suspension.
