A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to speed up investigations into cases involving the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele and former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The human rights lawyer made the statement on Friday, June 30, during Channels Television’s Programme, Politics Today.
Falana advised the DSS to arraign Emefiele and Bawa in court if the secret has any evidence against the duo.
Politics Nigeria recalls that Emefiele was arrested and consequently suspended over allegations of terrorism financing, while the DSS reportedly quizzed Bawa over allegations of abuse.
“Investigations should be speedily conducted, more so where allegations are made. I do not expect any delay in the investigation of the very serious allegation that has been made,” Falana said.
Falana argued that the continued detention of Emefiele and Bawa does not reflect the implementation of the administration of the Criminal Justice Act.
The senior lawyer advised the federal government to handle their cases in accordance with the law.
