Ivory Coast forward Sebastian Haller has vowed that the team will avenge their previous loss to Nigeria in the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as both teams gear up for a face-off in the final.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the group-stage match, with William Troost-Ekong’s second-half penalty making the difference.
As the two teams prepare to clash again in the AFCON final in Abidjan on Sunday, Haller has affirmed the Ivory Coast’s desire for revenge and their aspiration to claim the coveted title this time.
“We are playing the (AFCON final) against Nigeria. It is a great nation. It is heavy. They beat us in the group stage.
“But we are already motivated to go and lift the trophy on Sunday in this stadium in front of the Ivorian people. We have revenge to take on Nigeria,” Haller declared.
The Elephants are set to face the Super Eagles, with both teams eyeing the prestigious AFCON title.
Ivory Coast is the first host country since Egypt in 2006 to reach the AFCON final.
