President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff on Monday, June 19.
Until he was appointed COAS, Lagbaja was the General Officer Commanding, Headquarters 1 Division from August 2022.
Here are five important things you should know about the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff.
1. Maj-Gen Lagbaja hails from Osun State. He bagged his Bsc in Geography at the Nigerian Defence Academy (2001) and Msc Strategic Studies at the US Army War College (2014).
2. He was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy on 12 September 1987 as a member of the 39th Regular Course.
3. He participated in various military operations including Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation MESA/Operation UDO, and Operation Forest Sanity.
4. He is a recipient of many honours and awards which include Forces Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Passed Staff Course and Fellows United States Army War Awards.
5. He is happily married to Mrs Mariya Abiodun-Lagbaja, and the marriage is blessed with two children.
