JAMB error: Establish CBT centres across 774 LGAs – Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives, Adewale Adebayo has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to establish Computer-Based Test centres across all the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.

Adebayo made this call while raising a motion on “The Urgent Need to Address the Anger, Confusion and Agony Trailing the 2025 UTME in Nigeria.”

According to the lawmaker, the House is aware that candidates sitting for JAMB and UTMEs struggle to travel long distances to access their examination centres due to the lack of adequately spread CBT locations across the country.

Stating that embarking on such long journeys to write the examination is a contributory factor to the mass failure experienced by candidates, Adebayo said there is a need to ensure that candidates are not overtly stressed before sitting for their papers.

“Many candidates are required to travel many kilometres to access the nearest CBT centres. This, however, has psychological effects on the candidates. Concerned that this situation exposes young candidates to avoidable risks including road accidents, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity,” Adebayo said.

He also stated that the House is aware that fatal accidents have over time claimed the lives of candidates who registered and embarked on the journey to write these examinations.

Making his prayers to the House, Adebayo called for a minute of silence in honour of the candidates who died in tragic accidents on their way to write the 2025 UTME examination.

“We urge JAMB to establish at least one CBT centre in each of the 774 Local Government Areas across the federation and mandate the committee on appropriation to include the construction of CBT centres in all the 774 LGA across the country in the 2026 budget estimate,” Adebayo stated.
