JAMB error: FG begins full-scale investigation into UTME results technical glitch

Following the controversy that rocked the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched a full-scale investigation into the matter.

Recall that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had admitted that the 2025 UTME results for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions were riddled with error.

The JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede while making this announcement said that all the candidates affected in the five states of the Southeast region and Lagos state would be allowed to resit their examination.

According to Oloyede, the error experienced in the results was caused by a technical glitch in the examination body’s system.

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the NDPC raised concerns over breach of data and the integrity of JAMB’s digital infrastructure.

Itunu Dosekun, head of NDPC’s media unit said the investigation would allow the commission to assess the level of compromise to the candidates’ data.

He also stated the investigation would expose whether JAMB or a third party violated national data protection laws.

Assuring an audit of the entire system, Itunu said the commission is committed to the protection of every individual or organisation’s data in accordance with the law.

It would also use the opportunity to verify how the data of the candidates were handled by the examination body.

“Over 100 notorious hackers are linked to targeting national examination bodies such as JAMB,” Itunu said.
