The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has promised to support the continued education of Nigerian students who were evacuated from Sudan due to the ongoing conflict.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the assurance was given by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during a meeting with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, on Tuesday.
Expressing empathy for the affected students, Oloyede praised NIDCOM for their effective handling of the evacuation process from Sudan. He also assured Dabiri-Erewa that JAMB would provide the necessary support required for the students’ integration into Nigerian universities.
In a bid to avoid any further disruptions to the students’ education, Oloyede urged them to follow the procedures outlined by JAMB.
He cited the example of Nigerian students who returned from Ukraine due to the war and failed to comply with the stipulated procedures, resulting in a delay in continuing their academic programs in Nigerian universities.
Oloyede confirmed that JAMB guidelines had been handed over to the Chairperson of the Commission to ensure that the students are properly integrated into the university system.
Prof Oloyede said: “What we will do is that we will provide the necessary infrastructure, the necessary enablement to make you accommodate or return these candidates (students) to our educational system.”
“We must thank NIDCOM for making efforts that the students are brought into the Nigerian university system and we have given the Commission the process and procedure.
It should be noted that over 1,856 Nigerians have been evacuated from Sudan due to the war, resulting in a disruption of their academic programs.
