Japa: Germany Passes New Law To Ease Immigration Rules for Nigerians

The German parliament has approved a new immigration law designed to attract skilled workers to the country.

Politics Nigeria reports that the country is currently suffering from an unprecedented labour shortage.

The law includes a points-based system that lowers entry hurdles for applicants according to their professional qualifications, age, and language skills.

One of the most significant introductions is the “opportunity card,” along with its corresponding points system.

This card allows foreigners without a pre-arranged job to come to Germany for one year to seek employment.

Individuals must possess a vocational qualification or a university degree to be eligible for the opportunity card.

In addition to facilitating job search, the opportunity card will also grant the flexibility of engaging in part-time employment of up to 20 hours per week and participating in probationary work.

Also, immigrants on a tourist visa will not be required to leave the country before returning in an employment context.
