‘Join APC now that I’m in charge’ – Ganduje woos Kwankwaso

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has said he is willing to accept his political rival, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), if he decides to defect to the ruling party.

The immediate past Kano state governor said this was the best time for his predecessor to rejoin the party as he had always wished.

Ganduje disclosed this in a chat with media organisations in Kano, noting that it would be easier for Kwankwaso to lobby since someone from his state was now in charge.

“Nobody will say Kwankwaso is not a good politician, as he was a two-term governor in Kano State, despite disruptions, a former minister of defence, even though he had no idea what defence is, and he was once a senator, even though he never contributed anything throughout his stay in the Senate,” Ganduje said.

“But, if he is willing to decamp to APC, our door is open, especially now that someone from his state is the party chairman, it will be easier for him to lobby.”

Asked why Kwankwaso’s name was missing in Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, Ganduje said the appointment issue was first heard from Kwankwaso, not President Tinubu himself.

Politics Nigeria recalls that Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy when he was Kano state governor between 1999 to 2003 and in 2011 to 2015.

The duo, however, parted ways during the first tenure of Ganduje as governor and have since not been on good political terms.
