JUST IN: 2-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos

A two-storey building which is located in Ikota, Lekki area of Lagos has collapsed trapping several workers under its rubble.

It was gathered that the building which was under construction collapsed with the workers on the site trapped.

While two of the victims of the collapse have been rescued, the scene of the incident has seen the deployment of officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) and the police.

The officials, Politics Nigeria gathered are working to ensure that all victims from the building which collapsed at about 3 pm on Tuesday, January 28, are safely rescued.

Reacting to the incident, Adedotun Keshinro, the Lagos state Commandant of the NSCDC, said the disaster management team of the corps was working with personnel from Eti-Osa Police Division.

He also stated that the corps is working with various other agencies on the search and rescue operation.

His words, “A distress call, from concerned residents was received that a two-storey building under construction collapsed, with workers trapped inside, at about 1500hrs around the Ikota axis of Lekki.

“While the search, rescue and recovery operation is ongoing, the Command’s personnel at the scene have confirmed, the successful rescue of two persons alive,” Keshinro stated.
