As the 2023 election approaches, Yakubu Mohammed, a presidential hopeful, on Monday said he is still the flagbearer of the African Action Congress (AAC).
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Mohammed reportedly quit the AAC due to party crisis.
Omoyele Sowore, a media entrepreneur, had tweeted on June 9 that he has been “validly elected by affirmation” as the presidential candidate of the AAC.
But in a statement issued today, obtained by this newspaper, Mohammed distanced himself from the report that said he resigned from the AAC.
“Let me state categorically that I emerged as our great party’s flag bearer after a highly competitive, transparent and inclusive primary held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 in Abuja,” Mohammed’s statement reads in part.
“The said report denouncing my mandate did not emanate from me or the party as I have not authorised or delegated anybody to issue a statement on my behalf.
“Kindly disregard the publication as it is the handiwork of mischief makers who have now come to terms that I am the presidential candidate to beat as we march towards the 2023 General Election.”
