As the 2023 elections draw near, men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday in Maiduguri, Borno State, sealed the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Headquarters at Abbaganaram, citing “orders from above”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this action by security agents is happening ahead of Rabiu Kwankwaso’s visit to commission the party’s secretariat in the state. The commissioning is scheduled for Saturday.
Kwankwaso is the presidential candidate of the NNPP.
Some campaign offices in some locations in Borno State were also allegedly sealed and taken over by police.
Alkasim Hussaini, a top supporter of Kwankwaso and the NNPP said of the police action: “It is not surprising. The way Kwankwaso is gathering mammoth crowds in the North will only remind you of Muhammadu Buhari’s early days in politics.
“Gathering such humbling crowd in Maiduguri will be so much humiliating to Kashim Shettima more than NBA suit saga.
“It will tell the world a different story from what the Borno politicians are telling their colleagues in other parts of the country about their strengths and weaknesses.”
