Three people reportedly died on Wednesday in Benin City, Edo after a violent protest broke out at the state office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that chaos happened while residents were waiting to collect forms that’ll enable them to deposit their old Naira notes as allegedly directed by the CBN.
This newspaper reports that the CBN had announced guidelines for the deposit of old notes at its offices nationwide, but had not put a deadline date to its announcement.
A Hilux vehicle conveying some officials driving into the CBN’s premises was reportedly prevented from gaining access to the bank by the residents.
The situation subsequently turned violent as some of them (the residents) attacked the vehicle. Responding, soldiers and police vehicles drove out of the bank shooting teargas and firing gunshots. Two persons allegedly died.
The killing led to violent protests across various banks on Akpakpava road in Benin.
Bonfires were started by angry residents along the road.
Some of the residents claimed one middle-aged man also died later, bringing the total number of deaths to three.
This is how Buhari wants to show appreciation to Nigerians who gave him opportunity to be the president. He started badly and is already on the path to ending badly. The violence has not started yet. Ordinary Nigerians have been pushed to the wall. This insensitive, irresponsible and clueless federal government should wait for reaction. As the saying goes, even a worm will turn
In one of Buhari speech he said that the change he promise Nigerians right from day one that he has fulfilled all. I start asking myself what change is he actually talking abt. Then I realized that it is the change that has be happening right in my eyes. From Boko Haram killing to Herdmen’s killing to End Sars killing to the now cash scarcity which has reduce ordinary Nigerian to nothing and causing protest within the country by angry Nigerians which has resulted to lost of innocent soul. Thank u very much Mr president for making us believe and trust in this ur so called evil change from the pit of hell. Thank u very much for the innocent soul which ur so call change has taken to their early grave. Thank u for the hardship and frustration that the country is right now due to ur change. Nigerians really didn’t see this coming. I hope we learn our lesson come February 25 after what we have be experiencing. I remain Obedient and u all should do same. The time is now for fresh and younger face with high educational background and love for the mases . Bcus that is what Nigerian needs
