The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has dismissed a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Chinedum Orji, against the member representing the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, of the Labour Party (LP).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the tribunal, led by Justice Abubakar Kutigi, ruled on Thursday that the petitioner failed to prove his case.
Orji had alleged that Aguocha was not duly nominated by the LP and therefore was not qualified to contest the election.
He also alleged that there was overvoting in some polling units.
However, the tribunal found that Orji had not presented any evidence to support his claims.
The tribunal also ruled that the issue of Aguocha’s membership of the LP was a pre-election matter and that the tribunal did not have jurisdiction to hear it.
Speaking after the ruling, Orji’s lawyer, Obinna Nkume, said his team would review the judgement and decide on the next line of action.
“We get the records of the judgement, review it and decide our next line of action,” he said
