Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has terminated the appointment of Bassey Okon, the Commissioner for Special Duties, effective immediately.
The announcement was made on Monday in Uyo by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah.
According to the statement, Mr. Okon’s removal is aimed at “repositioning” the administration, but no specific reason was given for the governor’s decision.
Notably, this is the first time Governor Eno has sacked a high-ranking official since taking office a year ago.
The governor’s cabinet is made of commissioners and top aides from his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
