A former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has been rejected again as the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the crisis within the APC in the state worsened after the demise of the former governor of the state and National Vice-Chairman of the party (South-West), Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
It was learned that a group within the party in the state, Unity Forum, rejected Alao-Akala as the leader of the party after the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Sunday, reconciled the warring factions in the party.
But in a statement on Tuesday jointly signed by Senator Soji Akanbi, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, and former Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, the group said a report which was presented during the reconciliation meeting did not reflect the true picture of things in the party.
The group said it rejected Fayemi’s proposal of Alao-Akala being the party leader in the state due to the fact that the APC constitution does not make a provision for a leader and that it does not want to create another possible dictator.
The forum called on members of the party in the state to disregard the alleged false claims on the peace initiative in the party.
