President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the death of Aliyu Daneji, the father of the National Coordinator, Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the 96-year-old lost his life to a protracted illness on Wednesday night.
The late Daneji has since been buried according to Islamic rites. Funeral prayers were observed early on Thursday at his residence at Sabuwar Kofar, Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
His death comes amidst a series of mysterious deaths ravaging Kano State, which led to the lockdown of the state by the president for two weeks.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has sent a condolence message to Dr Aliyu and members of his family. The message was conveyed via a statement by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, on Thursday in Abuja.
Buhari recalled that Daneji, pioneer Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Kano State, had worked diligently to provide a formidable structure for governance in the state.
“His foresight and large-heartedness in investing his time and resources in education has continued to bear fruits in the state and the nation.
“May the Almighty God comfort Dr Aliyu and the entire family,” the president said.
