All members of the House of Representatives who are from Enugu State on Thursday, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers include Nnolim Nnaji, who represents Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency; Anayo Onwuegbu of Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Martins Oke; Nnamdi Agbo and Mark Obetta.

Speaking on the defection of the lawmakers, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas read a letter sent by Nnaji.

Reading the lawmaker’s letter, Abbas said, “His (Nnaji’s) message to us today is on the same subject matter – Notice of Defection.”

“And his message reads as follows, I am pleased to inform you of my formal defection from the PDP to the APC effective, October 30, 2025,” he said.

Nnaji, in his letter also said that, the protracted and irreconcilable differences among the hierarchy of the PDP led to his decision to leave the opposition party.

According to the lawmaker, he claimed that the crisis in the PDP has prevented him from effectively pursuing his political career within the party.

The letter added, “This decision was made after thorough consultations with my family, constituents and friends.”

He stated that he has formally tendered his resignation to the PDP at his ward level while adding that he hopes to have a good working relationship with his colleagues in the APC.

In his reaction, Abbas assured the new converts of his esteemed support and conducive working relationship with members of the APC in the state and at the national level.

The defection of the lawmakers comes weeks after the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah dumped the PDP for the APC. The governor also joined the party with all his state commissioners and key leaders in Enugu.

The newly defected members were received at the House of Representatives complex in Abuja by Governor Mbah and the national chairman of the APC, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who attended the plenary.
