The All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This announcement was made on Wednesday by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Yilwatda, who is also from Plateau State, disclosed the defection while addressing party leaders at the high-level gathering.
According to him, Governor Mutfwang’s move has strengthened the APC’s position in the North Central, as the ruling party now controls all the states in the region.
He described the defection as a significant boost to the party ahead of future political engagements.
The caucus meeting, which is still ongoing, is being attended by President Bola Tinubu and key leaders of the party.
Also present are six governors who recently left the PDP for the APC, further underlining the growing wave of defections into the ruling party.
The development is expected to have serious implications for Plateau State politics, as well as for the opposition PDP, which has continued to lose prominent figures in recent months.
Party stakeholders within the APC have described the move as a sign of confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and the direction of the ruling party.
Recall, Politics Nigeria earlier reported that several PDP governors and lawmakers have dumped the opposition party for the APC in recent weeks, citing internal crises and leadership challenges within the PDP.
