The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for constitutional amendments to strengthen the judiciary and reduce prolonged court cases in Nigeria.
National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the call during a consultation organised by the House of Representatives committee on constitution review.
The meeting also included discussions with leaders of various political parties on proposed amendments to the 1999 constitution.
Basiru said the reform of the justice system is essential to restore public confidence and ensure the timely delivery of justice.
“I advocated for essential amendments that would enhance our judiciary and reduce the duration of litigation processes, thereby instilling greater confidence in the judicial sector,” he said.
He noted that the delays in judicial adjudication have become a major setback to Nigeria’s development efforts.
“Our president is making significant strides to position our country within the framework of a globalised economy.
“However, the existing delays in judicial adjudication hinder these efforts, ultimately affecting the nation’s overall development,” he added.
The APC chieftain urged the National Assembly to prioritise judicial reforms that will make Nigeria’s legal system more efficient and aligned with global standards.
