Defending champions Senegal secured their spot in the last 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a decisive 3-1 victory over Cameroon in Group C.
Senegal got an early lead through Ismaila Sarr, who found the back of the net in the 16th minute. Midway through the second half, Habib Diallo added another goal, making it 2-0 for the champions.
Cameroon, however, fought back when Jean-Charles Castelletto headed in a goal with just seven minutes remaining. However, despite George-Kevin Nkoudou’s missed opportunity to equalise with a free header, Sadio Mane sealed the win for Senegal in stoppage time.
With this result, Senegal maintains their status as a formidable force in the tournament. On the other hand, Cameroon, with just one point from two games, faces a crucial match against The Gambia on Tuesday.
They will be hoping for a win to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.
