JUST IN: Armed Bandits Attack Sokoto Community, Kill Six

Six persons have been killed, four injured and many women kidnapped when armed bandits attacked Duhuwa town in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday night.

A resident of the town revealed that the attack started late Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

He said the bandits stormed the town in large numbers, shooting sporadically and setting houses on fire.

“We buried six corpses after the attack and not five. The attack started late Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday,” the resident said.

“Aside the six casualties, four sustained injuries and majority of those abducted and whisked away are women.”

The resident appealed to the government to deploy more security forces to comb the bushes around the town where the bandits have allegedly set up their camp.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the attack, but said only five persons were killed.

Police spokesman ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the attack.

“Yes, it is true that bandits attacked Duhuwa, under Wurno local government, Thursday night,” Rufa’i said.

“Five people were reportedly killed in the unfortunate incident. Four are receiving treatments for injury suffered during the attack, while many others were abducted.”
