A bullion van driving from Mbaise to Owerri in Imo State, was on Thursday attacked by armed robbers.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attack occurred at about 02:00 pm at Ogbor Nguru, Nwankwo in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area (LGA).
It was also gathered that the attackers were unsuccessful in their criminal bid as the vehicle had delivered its cash and was only returning to Owerri.
No casualty was recorded: the driver of the van and two other occupants fled for safety. However, the van while trying to evade the attack, rammed into some other vehicles on the road.
Security agents are presently at the scene of the attack.
The lingering insecurity in the South East has sent most residents into a state of perpetual fear; 31 people were reportedly killed in the region in 72 hours about a week ago when gunmen, described as “Effium warlords” invaded Effium/Ezza-Effium in Ohaukwu and part of Ebonyi Local Council Areas.
This has been the trademark in the region.
