JUST IN: Army Confirms Death of Soldier in Lagos Accident

The Nigerian Army on Friday, January 31, 2025, confirmed the death of a soldier following an accident around the Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State.

Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of the 81 Division in a statement said a vehicle had rammed into some troops during its bi-annual route march close to the barracks killing one person.

According to Ayeni, the accident also resulted to many of the troops sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Stating that the deceased soldier has been deposited in the mortuary, Ayeni said that those who sustained injuries are receiving medical treatment at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, Lagos.

“The General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased soldier while praying for the speedy recovery of the wounded. The GOC also called for calm among the public as investigation into the sad occurrence has commenced.

“The Division remains steadfast in its commitment to training and readiness to discharge its duties despite this devastating event,” Ayeni said.

He further noted that the loss would not deter the Division or the Army from remaining committed to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution as amended.
