Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on voters in Anambra state to support the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 8 governorship election, describing it as an opportunity to end years of poor governance.

In a statement on X, Atiku said the off-cycle poll presents a chance for the people of Anambra to “open a new chapter” and resist the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of “snatching and running away with the people’s mandate.”

“The election to elect the next governor of Anambra State on November 8 offers a unique opportunity to end the era of poor governance in the state in addition to ensuring that the ruling All Progressive Congress does not get the chance of practising its notoriety of snatching and running away with the mandate of the people,” he said.

Atiku urged residents to rally around Nwosu Chima John and Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, the ADC candidates, saying their emergence would usher in a “new era of prosperity and economic stability” for the state.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), under the leadership of Joash Amupitan, to prove that it has “turned a new page” by ensuring the integrity of the election.

“The election is also an opportunity for the electoral umpire under the leadership of Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN to prove to the world that it has turned a new page, and that the integrity of our election would not be sacrificed for the satisfaction of the ruling party,” he added.

Atiku encouraged registered voters to not only turn out to vote but also mobilise massive support for the ADC.

“Anambra is a place with so many good histories about our great country. I believe that yet again, Ndi Anambra will open the chapter of a new beginning in Nigeria where the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would bring lasting prosperity, peace and stability to our country,” he said.
