Bandits invaded Efagi village under the Lafiagi Emirate in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Friday, abducting a man and his wife and injuring a local vigilante member.
The attack, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., highlights the persistent insecurity confronting rural communities in the region.
According to a resident who spoke to NupekoTV Lafiagi, the armed men stormed the village and began shooting sporadically as they advanced.
In the confusion, the couple was taken from their home, while a member of the community vigilante group who tried to resist the attack sustained injuries.
Troops of the Nigerian Army were said to have responded swiftly, engaging the bandits shortly after the incident began.
Their intervention reportedly led to the rescue of the kidnapped woman, though her husband remains in captivity.
“The Army arrived instantly and started engaging with them,” the resident said. “They have reportedly rescued the woman from the bandits’ hands.”
As of Friday morning, soldiers were still stationed in the area and said to be in pursuit of the fleeing attackers.
