JUST IN: Bandits Kill Four Policemen in Fresh Attack in Zamfara

Armed bandits have claimed the lives of four policemen serving under the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the incident took place on Monday night when the officers were manning a checkpoint along the Bungudu-Gusau Road.

Reports have it that the security men were ambushed by the armed bandits who opened fire on them.

Confirming the attack, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, on Tuesday morning said the latest attack had indeed occurred. However, this newspaper learnt Abubakar could not provide details regarding the casualties at the time but assured that more information would be provided later.

Meanwhile, a resident of Bungudu town, Ibrahim Bungudu, said that four policemen had lost their lives in the attack. He further revealed that during the rampage, the bandits shot a person in Tagero village, situated in the Furfuri district of Bungudu Local Government Area. Additionally, the bandits had rustled numerous cattle belonging to residents of Tagero village.

Ibrahim Bungudu said, “The bandits ambushed the police along Gusau-Bungudu road close to Nabature company and killed four. They also rustled many cattle at Tagero village under Furfuri district, and one person was shot in the hand in the village.”

Another resident of Bungudu town, Usman Bungudu, corroborated the incident.

Usman Bungudu said, “The incident happened around 12 am when the policemen mounted a checkpoint along Gusau road. The bandits just ambushed and shot at them; they ran away after killing four policemen.”
