“Tinubu’s policies have taken Nigeria back to 1983 hunger crisis” – Ozekhome

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, has criticised the policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, accusing it of reverting Nigeria to a state of hunger and starvation reminiscent of the 1983 era.

Ozekhome expressed his concerns during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he emphasised the negative impacts of removing subsidies without adequate measures to mitigate the resulting challenges.

Ozekhome found fault with the government’s tendency to blame past administrations, highlighting the need to reassess current policies.

He stated, “You removed subsidy without any attempt to cushion the devastating effect of its removal.

“In other words, Nigeria has gone back to where we were before 1983, where it was actually hunger and starvation.”

The legal expert urged a return to the drawing board, emphasising the importance of addressing inherited challenges and formulating policies prioritising the Nigerian people’s well-being.

  1. In 1983, I was a young teenage boy but we didn’t experience this kind of hunger and starvation. In my life time, it’s first in history.
