JUST IN: Bode Agusto, former DG of Budget Office, founder of Nigeria’s first credit rating firm, is dead

Bode Agusto, Nigerian economist and founder of Agusto & Co, Nigeria’s first credit rating agency, has passed away at 68, BusinessDay reports.

Agusto is also a former Director-General of the Budget Office. Before his passing, Agusto was an independent consultant in economics, finance, and business strategy.

Agusto & Co., established in 1992, played a crucial role in introducing credit rating services to Nigeria.

The Securities and Exchange Commission officially licensed the company, making it the nation’s first credit rating agency. Bode Agusto led the company as Managing Director for 11 years.

As of 2023, Agusto & Co. has expanded its reach, offering its services in Nigeria and countries like Kenya and Rwanda.

Agusto was once nominated as a minister by former President Goodluck Jonathan, but the Nigerian Senate rejected his nomination due to political disagreements.
