Security Operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF), on Monday, engaged in a heavy gun-battle with Sit-at-home Enforcers/Unknown Gunmen in Awka North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.
It can be recalled that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, instituted a Sit-at-Home exercise to be held every Monday in the entire South-East in protest of the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Ikenga Tochukwu, the police spokesperson in Anambra, the sit-at-home enforcers had disrupted trading activities at the Achalla market the previous Monday, compelling traders to adhere to the directive.
“The hoodlums had disrupted trading in Achalla market the previous Monday, ordering traders to sit at home,” the statement disclosed.”
“This drew the attention of the security apparatus in the state, leading to the Police Command engaging the hoodlums and administering a full dose of the medicine in the early hours of Monday, February 19, 2024.”
Tochukwu further revealed that while many of the fleeing hoodlums sustained injuries of varying degrees, the Joint Task Force operatives managed to recover several items from them, including vehicles and firearms.
“The ammunition seized includes over 300 rounds of Machine Gun Ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 rifles. Additionally, five exotic vehicles previously snatched at gunpoint were also recovered,” the police spokesperson stated.
The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums, intensifying efforts to bring them to justice for their role in the clashes.
