JUST IN: Chelsea Agrees to Terms with Mauricio Pochettino as New Head Coach

Chelsea Football Club has reportedly agreed to terms with Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach, according to multiple emerging reports.

POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the details of the deal are expected to be finalised in the coming days, and Pochettino is set to begin his new role this summer with a backroom team consisting of Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and his son Sebastiano Pochettino, all joining him at Stamford Bridge.

The club’s coaches will also be added to his staff.

Before the end of the current season, Pochettino will collaborate with Frank Lampard, the interim head coach, and Chelsea’s sporting directors.

Pochettino has been out of football since leaving his position as manager of Paris Saint-Germain in July of last year.

Pochettino rose to prominence at Espanyol and Southampton before a successful spell with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea’s London rivals. He helped Spurs qualify for the top four in four consecutive seasons, as well as leading them to the Champions League final in 2019.

The following season, he was sacked before taking over as head coach with PSG in January 2021, winning the Coupe de France in May 2021 before claiming the Ligue 1 title the following season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has been searching for a new permanent head coach since sacking Graham Potter last month, with Lampard taking over as a temporary replacement for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea has had a challenging season, with both Potter and Thomas Tuchel paying the price with their jobs.

Lampard took over as caretaker manager in April and secured his first victory with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in May after six straight defeats.
