The Court of Appeal in Abuja HAS upheld Nasir Idris as the duly elected governor of Kebbi State following the March 18 election, dismissing the appeal brought by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, General Aminu Bande.
The three-member panel, led by Justice Ndukwe Anyannwu, delivered a unanimous judgment affirming Governor Idris’s victory.
Justice Anyanwu clarified that the issues raised by the PDP lacked merit, highlighting that the allegations against Deputy Governor Abubakar Umar Tafida regarding testimonial forgery were not substantiated as required by law.
Additionally, the court dismissed claims of non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, emphasizing the failure of the appellants to demonstrate how these allegations significantly impacted the election process.
The judgment from Justice Anyanwu validated the earlier decision of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had dismissed the PDP’s petition and confirmed Governor Nasir Idris’s election victory.
