JUST IN: Court sets dates for Nnamdi Kanu’s bail hearing

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja, on Friday afternoon announced May 18 and 26 as the dates for the ruling of bail application of the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that out of 15-count charge against the Nigerian separatist leader, eight were struck out.

Other count charges, this newspaper understands, will be tried by the court.

Kanu’s defence team led by Mike Ozekhome (Senior Advocate of Nigeria ) had asked for bail application for his client, which Justice Nyako subsequently fixed for May 2022 (both ruling and hearing to commence on the 18 and 26 May 2022).

Also, on the proposal to move the venue of Kanu’s trial for the next hearing, Justice Nyako said she will communicate with the legal teams before the next seating.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in Kenya in June 2021.

While Igbo leaders are pleading with President Muhammadu Buhari to pardon Kanu and grant him freedom, the Nigerian leader said he cannot interfere with the judiciary.
