JUST IN: Court to hear suit seeking for DNA Test for Mohbad’s Son

The Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is gearing up to hear a suit requesting a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test for Liam, the son of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as ‘Mohbad’.

This development was confirmed in a statement signed by a member of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu. Joseph Aloba, the deceased singer’s father, disclosed that he had filed a lawsuit seeking a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.

In the statement titled ‘Aloba family seeks court order for DNA test on Liam,’ obtained by correspondents on Sunday, Odumosu noted that all necessary legal arrangements were in place to ensure the success of the matter.

The application, filed at the Family Court of the Ikorodu Magistrate Court (MKD/31/FAM/2024), under the case of Joseph Aloba v Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, seeks an order from the court directing that a DNA test be conducted concerning the paternity of Master Liam Aloba. The test is to be conducted at a recognized and accredited government or private medical facility within Lagos State, Nigeria, at the expense of the applicant.

Additionally, the family has requested an order directing Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba to submit herself and Master Liam Aloba for the DNA test. Furthermore, the application seeks an order granting leave to the chief pathologist in charge of the remains of Mohbad, currently at the Military Hospital, Yaba Lagos, to take samples of the body of the deceased to conduct a DNA test for Liam.

The statement also revealed an unsuccessful attempt to serve the court process on Mohbad’s wife at her Lekki home on Friday, March 8. The legal team stated that alternative methods would be explored to ensure that all court processes are properly served.

Mohbad’s death, which occurred at the age of 27, sparked controversies on social media. As a former signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad’s departure from the label in February 2022 raised eyebrows. The Lagos State Police Command inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death on September 18, 2023. This investigation led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu(SamLarry), among others.

The body of Mohbad was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, to determine the cause of his death.

The police confirmed that the Autopsy had been done and awaiting results.
