Court stops PDP Congresses in Kano

The Federal High Court sitting in Kano has granted an interim order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from conducting its local government and state congresses to elect new party executives.

Justice Lewis Allagoa also restrained the Inspector-General of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from partaking in or endorsing the congresses until a final determination of the suit filed by Ali Baffa and two others who allege that they are being excluded from the ward congress of the party.

Parties joined in the suit failed to show cause why the order should not be granted and Justice Allagoa granted the experte order and adjourned the matter to September 22 for a hearing of the substantive motions.

Since the defection of former PDP Chairman, Rabiu Suleman Bichi to the APC, there has been a battle for supremacy and control of the party between factions loyal to former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Foreign Affairs Minister Aminu Wali.
