The burial of elder statesman and business icon, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has been postponed to Tuesday in Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, due to delays in the arrival of his remains.
Alhaji Muhammad Idris, minister of information, confirmed the development in an interview with BBC Hausa on Monday.
He said the postponement was caused by procedural requirements imposed by Saudi authorities for receiving bodies flown in from abroad.
“The necessary legal documentation and procedural alignments are currently underway and are expected to be finalised by Tuesday,” he said.
Dantata, a revered figure in Nigeria’s business and philanthropic community, passed away recently, drawing widespread tributes from across Nigeria and beyond.
Dignitaries including the governors of Kano and Jigawa states, the 16th Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, and former Jigawa governor, Ali Sa’ad Birnin Kudu, have already arrived in Medina in anticipation of the burial.
The funeral will now take place on Tuesday after all legal and religious conditions are met.
