JUST IN: Deadly clashes erupt between Boko Haram and ISWAP in Lake Chad region

Boko Haram and ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) terrorist groups recently engaged in a deadly clash on Tumbun Rago island in Lake Chad.

The latest skirmish, occurring in the early hours of January 22, 2024, resulted in several casualties on both sides.

Reliable sources report that ISWAP forces launched an attack on Boko Haram fighters who were encamped in Tumbun Rago. The retaliation followed the assault initiated by the Boko Haram faction on the ISWAP camp in Tumbun Jaki on January 21.

The confrontation in Tumbun Rago was described as intense, with Boko Haram suffering significant losses.

Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, received information from credible sources, confirming the severity of the clash and the considerable casualties suffered by the Boko Haram group.

The ongoing rivalry between the two factions, once allies, shows no signs of abating, with both sides fiercely vying for supremacy in the region.
