Medical doctors working in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, January 22, commenced an industrial action over their unpaid salaries.
The doctors mainly among those employed in 2023 shut down medical services across various districts of the FCT including the Kubwa General Hospital where patients were informed that there would be no doctors on ground to attend to their medical needs.
According to sources, the strike is expected to last for three, serving as a warning to the government in due time.
The source also stated that the three-day strike when completed can drag into an indefinite strike should the government fail to address the challenges raised by the doctors.
On December 23, 2024, Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the FCT minister over the delayed payment of salaries of doctors across the territory.
With the ultimatum expiring on January 6, the doctors resorted to embarking on a three-day warning strike today, January 22, 2025.
