The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly attempted to re-arrest suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele despite the court’s bail order.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Emefiele was granted bail in the sum of N20 million and one surety in like sum by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
However, shortly after the bail was granted, DSS operatives drove out the Hilux pickup van used in bringing Emefiele to court, suggesting that they wanted to take him back to their detention centre.
Emefiele’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu, SAN, raised the alarm and informed the court of the DSS’s plot to re-arrest his client.
The court noted that Daudu had done what was required of him but said it was still in doubt about what it could do in the circumstances.
The judge told Daudu to allow him to dispose of other matters before the court and get back to him.
According to Vanguard, scores of hooded DSS operatives were sighted around the courtroom, apparently bent on re-arresting Emefiele.
