JUST IN: DSS invites Lagos NURTW Boss, Sego over threat to ‘deal with’ APC Opponents

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Sego, was on Thursday invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) following allegations that he made inflammatory remarks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sego came under public scrutiny after a viral video captured him addressing union members in Yoruba, warning that a repeat of the 2023 electoral events would not be tolerated. In the clip, he declared that those who “make any mistakes in 2027 will be dealt with,” urging his audience to support the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The remarks triggered widespread backlash, with many accusing him of voter intimidation.

Sego Denies Threatening Voters

Reacting to the allegations in a follow-up disclaimer video, Sego confirmed that the DSS had invited him for questioning earlier in the day. He, however, dismissed the claims as false and malicious, insisting that his message was directed exclusively at union members, not the general public.

“I have always been a man of peace, and my messages are directed only to our members. Everyone has the right to associate freely and choose their affiliations, and I fully respect that,” he said.

‘Plot to Destabilize the Union’

The NURTW chairman alleged that the controversy was orchestrated by rival groups seeking to undermine his leadership within the Lagos transport sector.

“There is always an enemy in every job, and we know where this is coming from. This is clearly an attempt to destabilize me and the NURTW in Lagos State,” Sego stated.

The DSS has not issued an official statement on the outcome of the questioning as of press time.
