An aide to Chinedu Onah, the deputy speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Ikechukwu Eze has died in a road accident.
Eze, who served as the personal assistant to the deputy speaker died along the Abakiliki-Enugu Expressway on Saturday.
The secretary to the speaker, Chinonso Nwede, said Eze died while he was returning from the funeral wake keep of a friend’s mother alongside other three legislative aides and another individual.
Other occupants of the vehicle who were said to be injured are receiving treatmnet at a medical facility in the state.
Nwede in a statement on Sunday, said, “Sadly, Eze succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The four other individuals involved in the accident are still receiving treatment for their varying degrees of injuries.”
Describing Eze’s death as a painful loss, Nwede condoled with the family and loved ones of the deceased and the deputy speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
He added Eze’s passing was painful because his friends were planning to celebrate his National Youth Service Corps completion and other feats he had secured.
He said,“Eze’s life was not without its challenges, having lost his mother at a tender age and being raised without her care.
“As the only son, his father had pinned his hopes on him, and was relieved to see him grow into a capable individual and serve as personal assistant to the fourth citizen of Ebonyi,” Nwede added.
The deceased was also the coordinator of the Youth Movement for the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru in the Umuogudu Oshia Ward of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
