Egypt has finally agreed to open its borders for Nigerians stranded in Sudan, but with stringent conditions and guidelines that must be met.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this announcement was made by Abike Dabiri, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), who stated that the border was opened only after President Buhari intervened with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
According to Dabiri, the processing of evacuees by the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt will begin soon. However, those seeking to enter Egypt must meet certain conditions that have been put in place.
These include providing details and schedules of the aircraft, the capacity of the plane, a firm pledge that once the citizens depart the border, they will be conveyed directly to the designated airport, a comprehensive list of the evacuees with passport numbers, valid travel documents such as passports, and the presence of Nigerian government officials at the points of evacuation.
Furthermore, standby buses must be available to convey evacuees to the airport immediately.
