Massive explosions shook Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Tuesday, with Israeli officials confirming that the blasts were linked to a strike targeting senior Hamas leaders based in the Gulf state.
An Israeli official, speaking to the press on condition of anonymity, said the attack specifically targeted Hamas’ leadership in Doha.
The announcement coincided with loud blasts that echoed across the city, sending plumes of black smoke into the air.
It was reported that the explosion was connected to Israel’s statement. However, it was not immediately clear if there were casualties.
Hamas’ exiled leadership has long operated from Qatar, which has played a key role in mediating negotiations between Hamas and Israel, including efforts toward a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages seized during Hamas’ October 7, 2023, assault.
Analysts warn that a strike on Hamas leaders in Doha could derail fragile negotiations and deepen tensions in the ongoing conflict.
